Falling Buoys

For this piece, I was tasked to successfully integrate a CG element with an image. Below is the final composite. I wanted to have something interesting and different to interact with the stairs so I chose a buoy. Then I wanted to make it a bit more interesting and have multiple buoy's interact with each other as they fell down the stairs. Below this is a breakdown video of the multiple passes I did withing Maya and Nuke. I also created a blog with day to day updates on my process the link for it is below.

Below is a breakdown showing the various passes I used and composited together in Nuke to integrate the CG Buoy's and image of the stairs.

Below is a breakdown showing the various passes I used and composited together using a grey ball for a reference of the shadow. This was essential to have a rendered composite of the balls falling so I could see how my shadow projection would work properly once I placed the buoy's in the scene.
